The 2017 Borrowdale Shepherds’ Meet reverts to a Sheep Show

It is with considerable regret that the organising committee has decided that it is not practical to continue with the Borrowdale Show in it’s previous format.

The committee is aware of the disappointment that recent cancellations have caused, and we have scaled down the show in an attempt to reduce damage to the show field and car parks in the event of bad weather. However, following last year’s cancellation the committee has decided that it would now be better to safeguard the most traditional aspects of the Shepherds’ Meet and reduce the likelihood of cancellations in the future.

To this end, we will be holding a traditional ‘Shepherds’ Meet’ at a new location, on the field opposite the Scafell Hotel, Rosthwaite on Sunday, 17th September 2017.

The Shepherds’ Meet will have a Sheep Show for Herdwick and Swaledale breeds, a Working Shepherds’ Dog Show and a Hand Clipping Competition. Judging will commence at 10.30 a.m. The Dale Head Fell Race will also be held, starting at 2.0 p.m. The committee is very grateful to the Cumberland Building Society for being our Sponsor this year.

Please Note

Whilst members of the public will be very welcome at the Shepherds’ Meet, over and above the normal car parking facilities in the valley there will only be one other small field available. Visitors are encouraged to walk, cycle, car share or catch a bus if at all possible.

After this years’ event we will be moving the Borrowdale Shepherds’ Meet to a date in October, which will fit in better with the farming calendar. The date of next year’s Meet will be posted on this website in due course.

Thank You

The committee would like to thank all those that have contributed over the years to what had become one of the Lake District’s most popular shows. We would also like to thank all our many visitors.

Finally, the donations received in 2014 will now help us to secure the most traditional aspects of the Shepherds’ Meet. We thank all of you who so kindly gave a donation.
